      It can bounce, but it will not come free. All the pins and connections are retained with captive pins.

      @@ForrestMFG awesome! I've got a similar type of trailer and was worried all the terrible roads would somehow cause it to fail, if I didn't make some sort of clamp like you have. That's great to know. Awesome Duc by the way. I just got a new V2 and I'm paranoid right now it'll fall off - hence why I'm looking at this type of a setup.

    Excellent presentation sir. Everything explained in perfect detail. I am a DIY mechanic/hobbyist and own a small metal-cutting band saw that has served me well over 30 years; except, I am always breaking blades. I have always guessed at blade tension and realize this is the culprit to blade breakage. I cannot justify purchasing a Starrett or Lenox gauge, but it is obvious enough how they work, so I intend to make my own. I am a mechanical designer and a machinist so that should be no problem. I will incorporate a .001" dial indicator and tension my blades to the calculated stretch in thousandths.

    Does this only work for that specific bike? I'm assuming the wheelbase would be different if you had multiple bikes and wouldn't work for more than one?

    • @ForrestMFG
      @ForrestMFG 7 місяців тому

      correct, with this setup I can only load a bike with this specific setup. If you use the pitbull trailer restraint system on a typical flat bed trailer with no front wheel chock then that is not a limitation. If I want to take a different bike to the track on this trailer I either need to move the mounting plate or just not use the pitbull setup and mount the bike as kendon designed it.

    Great little tutorial. The one thing I would add though, is to make sure when installing the gauge that you do not seat the back of the blade so as to touch the back of the gauge. Ensure only the set screws are in contact with the blade, not the gauge body itself.

    Would it be advisable to preload the gauge just a bit, then set the dial to 0? That way you know the bottom pivoting arm is against the gage.

    • @ForrestMFG
      @ForrestMFG 2 роки тому

      I don't think you would want to do that. Just slacken your blade until it is completely detensioned, but don't let the blade curve or get floppy. Then mount the guide and zero the indicator. You are possibly correct that a tiny bit of preload wouldn't matter. But I prefer to start with the blade slack but straight

      thank you. When cutting graphite there are a couple of things to watch out for. First the material is very abrasive and will dull your blade quickly. then a dull blade will not cut straight. Next the dust produced when you cut graphite is electrically conductive, so if the dust gets into your motor or other electrical parts it may short them out.

    I'm looking to do the same setup. Did you consider putting the pitbull base plate in front of the rear wheel so that way you'd push the bar into bracket instead of dragging it and wouldn't be as hard to adapt the bracket to clear the siderail since narrows towards the rear. I don't have a pitbull system yet so I can't do a fitting/measuring myself. I'm assuming the bar and base plate bracket will clear the trailer hitch hinge if mounted forward of the rear axle

    • @roman2227
      @roman2227 2 роки тому

      you have to push the bike onto the trailer WITH the TRS on the rear axle. how do you expect to push your bike onto a trailer with the TRS in front of the rear wheel? it doesn't work that way.

    • @ForrestMFG
      @ForrestMFG 2 роки тому

      I briefly looked at doing it that way, but there were multiple geometry issues. doing it with the base plate behind the rear axle was the only way it was going to work.

    • @Rzm1986
      @Rzm1986 2 роки тому

      @@roman2227 funny their website shows that mounting it with the bar in front of the rear wheel as an option. It's possible if you have the clearance. On a regular trailer it wouldn't be an issue.

    • @ForrestMFG
      @ForrestMFG 2 роки тому

      @@Rzm1986 On a flat trailer deck I'm sure it would work and I did look at that option. But on a Kendon trailer that would have required cutting down or removing the two round tubes which serve as a wheel guide. Probably could make that work on a Kendon with the additional work but I am satisfied with this setup. But then anchoring everything in front of the hinge would mean I would not need those clamps to hold the rear deck from bouncing. If you do mount one this way please post a video. I'd like to see how it turns out.

    • @ForrestMFG
      @ForrestMFG 2 роки тому

      for lack of better words, it is to prevent vacuum sucking from the front where it doesn't do any good. taping up everything except the opening on the top surface means it focuses the dust collection at the top of the nozzle where it does the most good.

      the blade is what is called a "scallop edge knife style blade" but it looks just like a bread knife such as you might have in your kitchen at home. We sell this blade or it is available from other specialty bandsaw blade manufacturers or resellers. It is kinda special stuff so not everyone who deals with bandsaw blades will have it.

    I appreciate the information and demo my only concern is the operator is standing in an unsafe position, I know bandsaw blades do not break often but it has happened to me a few times in my life. It breaks at the weld and when it does the blade continues to travel with the broken end usually slamming into the table and unrolling off to the side where this operator was standing.
